Today, many of the world’s remaining natural resources can be found on or in indigenous peoples’ territories. This poses great threats to their lands, natural environment and well-being, and often leads to violations of their human rights. Protecting these rights is the primary responsibility of governments, but increasingly companies that want to invest in indigenous territories are held responsible for respecting the human rights of indigenous peoples.
