Successful expert dialogue on Achieving Sustainable Livelihoods for Indigenous Peoples
On April 8th 2010, NCIV organized an international Expert Dialogue on Achieving Sustainable Livelihoods for Indigenous Peoples. The meeting focused on Development with Culture and Identity with indigenous peoples. You can download the final report here.
Participants included experts from indigenous peoples’ organizations, ILO, UNESCO, IFAD, the European Commission and politicians, policy-makers, academics, practitioners and business representatives from The Netherlands.

After an introduction on Development with Culture and Identity by Harishwar Dayal of the Indian Institute on Human Development and on the needs & challenges in realizing MDG7 for IPs by Harm Evert Waalkens, Member of Dutch Parliament for the Dutch Labor Party, specific workshops were organised on the following four topics:
- Sectoral approach
- Gender perspectives
- Business and development
- Capacity building
The expert dialogue resulted in policy recommendations on the sector approach, gender perspectives, business and development and capacity building.
